Paddlefest on Lake Davidson, March 26

No, this isn’t an event about getting your kids in line!  Rather, it’s a fun event to celebrate the completion of the Lake Davidson Canoe/Kayak Launch and Nature Preserve.

Join us on March 26 from 1 to 4 p.m. to celebrate the opening of the canoe/kayak launch area on Lake Davidson!  DLC, Davidson Outdoors, and REI invite everyone to an afternoon of paddling activities at the Lake Davidson Nature Preserve behind Davidson Day School, 750 Jetton Street. Admission and all activities are free.

Bring your own boat or borrow a tandem canoe or 25’ Clipper provided by Davidson Outdoors, participate in games and activities, take a guided tour of the island and scenic shoreline, and see product displays and win prizes from REI.

DLC Board member Irvin Brawley states, “Paddlers will discover that Lake Davidson offers a calmer, safer location than other lakes in the area with far fewer large powerboats.”

“Even if you don’t get on the water. Paddlefest would be a fine time to come and explore the beautiful, heavily-forested Nature Preserve, located on an 8-acre peninsula with lovely views across the lake,” former DLC President Sterling Martin declared.

Davidson Outdoors Director Ed Daugherty applauded the completion of the launch noting “There is no other legal public access to this 341-acre lake since the lake was created in the 1960’s.  Come out and discover for yourself the fun of paddling sports and how special this lake is.”

We are grateful to REI for funding the construction of the 900’ trail from Jetton Street to the launch site.  The trail was completed in late 2010 by volunteers with assistance from The Town of Davidson and Davidson College.
